The Newark Partnership, in partnership with the City of Newark, the University of Delaware, Chemours, Gore, Bloom, other small and large businesses, and community institutions, hosts the Sustainable Newark Initiative (SNI).  SNI focuses on coordinating and supporting city-wide collaborations to promote the adoption and implementation of sustainable policies and practices that will enhance the long-term prosperity and quality of life in Newark. This includes community engagement and support for the implementation of Sustainable Newark: The City of Newark’s Plan for Sustainability, coordination with the sustainability initiatives of the University of Delaware Sustainability Council, and collaboration on sustainable programs and practices with Newark businesses and nonprofits, and with the sustainability efforts of those who live, work, and study in the City.

The Sustainable Newark Initiative engages three dimensions of sustainability:

  • long-term economic prosperity;

  • equitable and inclusive engagement of the community; and,

  • environmental protection and improvement reflected in air and water quality, resource conservation, energy efficiency, reduced carbon impacts, and sustainable designs in buildings, transportation, and core infrastructure.
